AWWA Awards First Ever Project of the Year!

At the recent Wisconsin Section American Water Works Association conference in Madison, the GRAEF / City of Wauwatosa project team proudly accepted the first-ever "Project of the Year," for their efforts on the Wisconsin Avenue Transmission Main & Temporary Burleigh Booster Station project.

The project came about as the Zoo Interchange project progressed through the City of Wauwatosa. The Wauwatosa Water Utility was required to relocate a 24-inch water transmission main in advance of the freeway realignment and widening and to accommodate the proposed Wisconsin Avenue bridge reconstruction. This fascinating story involved numerous stakeholders, limited location options, and a unique design from every perspective. From the viewpoint of Water Utility superintendent, James Wojcehowicz, “The Wauwatosa Water Utility was faced with the challenge of keeping their community’s water supply uninterrupted.” Through all of the complications, the proejct team was able to provide just that, uninterrupted service, to the entire community.
