GRAEF Project Wins State Award
The De Pere Riverwalk and Wildlife Viewing Pier project is an excellent example of how state, federal, and local project stakeholders working together can overcome challenges. Since the project involved development of an area with high quality natural and historic resources, a multitude of state and federal regulatory agencies were involved.
Discussions regarding the concept of a pedestrian riverwalk and wildlife viewing pier began in the summer of 2007, during the final stages of the Claude Allouez Bridge reconstruction project. The project was completed with the construction of Phase II in May 2013. The six year timeframe is telling and demonstrates how issues and challenges can be addressed in order for a special project to become a reality.
GRAEF would like to thank the City of De Pere, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Coastal Management, United States Army Corps of Engineers, United States Coast Guard, Fox River Navigational System Authority, the many financial supporters, and the people of De Pere for their support of the visionary project. It is gratifying to work closely with a community to design and build a project that so visibly enhances the neighborhood and its quality of life.
